Schools in Context

School in town

A few weeks ago I emailed my tutor an initial proposal for my upcoming dissertation. It went something like this:

‘This dissertation will consider whether greater school-community integration increases the empowerment and development of disadvantaged children in schools…’

It’s still quite broad and doesn’t quite hit the nail on the head, but it’s a start. What it does achieve is summarising my desire to put schools in context – to take education out of isolation and place it firmly within the hands of young people themselves in the context of their local communities, to broaden the scope of opportunity that education can supply and to enable an open door for all children to discover their potential.

I’d love to hear your thoughts or experience of putting schools in context or of successful community-school partnerships – please leave a comment here.
